How can we harness AI in high‑stakes environments without compromising professional judgment, mindfulness, and institutional trust? And as AI becomes increasingly integrated into everyday work, how can we ensure that it enhances rather than erodes human capabilities?

These timely questions were at the heart of a panel discussion held at Lund University on March 23, bringing together Information Systems (IS) scholars from six countries to explore the evolving relationship between artificial intelligence and human expertise.

The international panel brought together six Information Systems scholars:

  • Hasan Cavusoglu, Professor of Information Systems, University of British Columbia, Canada — specializing in information systems risks, cybersecurity, and privacy.
  • Ioanna Constantiou, Professor of Information Systems, Copenhagen Business School, Denmark — specializing in digital transformation, data strategy, and leadership.
  • Steinunn Gróa Sigurðardóttir, Postdoctoral Researcher and Lecturer in Information Systems, Reykjavik University, Iceland — specializing in digital health.
  • Wael Soliman, Associate Professor of Information Systems, University of Agder, Norway — specializing in the technology use lifecycle and cybersecurity management.
  • Virpi Kristiina Tuunainen, Professor of Information Systems, Aalto University, Finland — specializing in the platform economy and AI-based services.
  • Polyxeni Vassilakopoulou, Professor of Information Systems, University of Agder, Norway — specializing in human-centered AI and its implications for work.

The discussion was moderated by Miranda Kajtazi, Associate Professor at the Department of Informatics, Lund University School of Economics and Management, Sweden.

The event was organized as part of a seed-funded research project supported by AI Lund, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue on the opportunities and challenges associated with the growing integration of AI into professional and societal contexts.

The panel provided an exchange forum between academia, industry, and the public sector. Participants from private and public organisations enriched the discussion with practical experiences and diverse perspectives.
